"If people could convince themselves that art is a precise advance knowledge of how to deal with the psychic and social consequences of the coming technology, would they not all become artists? Or would they not begin to carefully translate new art forms into social navigation charts? I would be curious to know what would happen if art were suddenly recognised for what it is, a precise information of how the psyche must be prepared to prevent the next blow to our extensive faculties. (...) And it is here that the artist can teach us how to "react to punches" instead of "taking them on the chin". One could indeed argue that human history is a history of "punches taken on the chin".
